Subject: Clarification regarding extension of benefits of notional increment for the purpose of calculating family pension – reg.
Reference is invited to your letter No. 8(01)/2025/PA Admn.I/6962 dated 30.03.2026 forwarding the case of Sh. K. Sitaramanjaneyulu, SA(Retd) on the subject cited above.
2. The matter was referred to DoPT, being the nodal Department on service matters, for clarification. DoPT has since furnished its comments vide ID Note No. 19/2/2026-Pers. Pol. (Pay-Promotion) dated 29.05.2026 (copy enclosed).
3. DoPT has, inter alia, stated that the instructions contained in its O.M 19/116/2024- -Pers-Pol(Pay)(Pt) dated 14.10.2024 and 20.05.2025 were issued in compliance with the orders of the Hon'ble Supreme Court and no further instructions/clarification have been issued in the matter.
4. It is observed that DoPT O.M. dated 20.05.2025 specifically provides that grant of notional increment on 1st January/1st July shall be reckoned only for the purpose of calculating the pension admissible and not for the purpose of calculation of other pensionary benefits. In the absence of any specific clarification to the contrary from DoPT, the benefit of notional increment may not be extended for the purpose of calculation of family pension.
5. The representation may be disposed of accordingly.
